Abuja – In a significant move to prioritize youth empowerment, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, Rep. Martins Esin, co-chaired the 2025 budget defence session on Wednesday. Esin, who also represents Oron Federal Constituency, led deliberations on allocations for youth-focused programmes and initiatives.
The meeting, a joint session of committees from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, scrutinized appropriations proposed for key youth-centred agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC).
In attendance were the Minister of Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande; the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. YD Ahmed (Rtd.); and the Director-General of the CLTC, Mr Adesoji Eniade, among other representatives of the MDAs. Discussions revolved around strategies to effectively channel resources toward impactful youth programmes in the 2025 fiscal year.
Speaking at the session, Rep. Esin underscored the importance of empowering the nation’s youth, noting that targeted investments in their development are crucial for the country’s socio-economic progress. The session marked a collaborative effort by both legislative chambers to ensure that the proposed budget reflects the aspirations of Nigerian youth.
The defence of the 2025 budget is part of ongoing legislative oversight aimed at driving accountability and fostering national development through strategic investments in the youth sector.
