In continuation of his people-focused governance approach, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has empowered over 400 residents of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency with business grants, equipment, and vehicles during a Town Square meeting held at QIC Central School, Ikot Akpa Nkuk, Ukanafun.
The initiative saw 154 beneficiaries receive the Traders Grant, 116 benefit from the Farmers Grant, four recipients awarded N5 million each under the MSME Grant, while 131 individuals received various business equipment to support their enterprises.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Eno emphasized responsible use of the grants, warning beneficiaries against misapplying the funds, especially in ponzi schemes or non-productive ventures.
“We must meet with our people beyond elections,” the Governor said. “The Town Square provides a platform to interact, assess your needs, and reflect them in the 2026 budget. We may not do everything at once, but your voices will shape our priorities.”
This engagement marks the fourth in a series of constituency visits aimed at capturing grassroots needs for budgetary inclusion. Governor Eno also inspected the ongoing construction of a general hospital in Ukanafun, directing the contractor to fast-track work for a September 2025 completion.
Presenting a documented list of constituency needs, former House of Representatives member and Ukanafun political leader, Obong Eno Akpan, commended the Governor’s developmental efforts and expressed confidence in the inclusion of the area’s requests in the next budget.
PDP State Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, and APC Deputy State Chairman, Dr. Umo Essien, echoed bipartisan support for Governor Eno, lauding his inclusive leadership. Both pledged their continued backing, with Essien particularly noting the Governor’s appeal across party lines.
Several dignitaries—including commissioners, traditional rulers, and local leaders—praised Governor Eno’s people-centric governance. Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, highlighted the Town Square initiative as a testament to the Governor’s commitment to participatory governance.
The event culminated in a unanimous endorsement of Governor Eno for a second term, following a motion moved by Hon. Unyime Idem and seconded by Hon. Sampson Idiong.
