Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the maintenance of 83 roads within Uyo metropolis, alongside the full rehabilitation of Aka Itiam Road, in a sweeping intervention aimed at improving urban mobility and service delivery.
The approvals followed detailed briefings by the Ministry of Works during the ongoing ministerial review sessions in Uyo. Governor Eno directed that all failed portions on the affected roads be fixed without delay, insisting that the repairs must be completed before the end of the dry season. He confirmed that Amitec Construction and Development Limited has already been mobilised to commence work.
Roads slated for maintenance include major arterial and inner-city routes such as Oron Road, Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Clement Isong Road, Port Harcourt Street, sections of Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Plaza Bypass, Itam Junction Roundabout, Johnson Street off Aka Road, Ekpenyong Street, and roads around D’Angelo Hotel and the EFCC office in Ewet Housing Estate.
Beyond infrastructure, the Governor also rolled out approvals across key social sectors. In the social welfare sector, he authorised the first-quarter distribution of food items to vulnerable persons across the state, with the exercise scheduled to coincide with the forthcoming Easter period.
In education, Governor Eno approved the payment of first and second term subventions to public primary, secondary and technical schools. He further granted approval for the payment of WAEC, NABTEB and science practical examination fees for SS3 and ST3 students of Akwa Ibom State origin in public schools.
Additional approvals cover the procurement of uniforms, shoes, bags and socks for pupils in model primary schools across the state.
In the health sector, the Governor approved all required counterpart funding for 2025 health interventions, including health insurance, primary healthcare delivery, immunisation, family planning and nutrition programmes.
He also sanctioned the release of funds for the 2024 Medical Residency Training Programme, the revitalisation of the State Central Medical Stores, and the issuance of appointment letters to newly engaged contract health workers.
The approvals underscore the Eno administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and sustained investment in human development sectors across Akwa Ibom State.
