By Solomon OKPO

The vibrant spirit of Eket Local Government Area lit up the Akwa Ibom Christmas Village Square in Uyo as the Eket People’s Union (EPU) delivered a grand cultural showcase at the ongoing Christmas Unplugged 3.0.

With the theme of the night echoing through the grounds, “Eket is Exceptional!”, the people of Eket demonstrated once again why they remain one of Akwa Ibom’s most culturally admired groups.

The showcase featured a rich array of traditional cuisine, including mmanayóng Ekid, ótók nkim udók, atama soup, and the famed editan soup, among other delicacies. Spectators were also treated to live craft displays, colourful costume parades, and traditional dances.

Eket people are Exceptional

From the electrifying Item performance to the graceful procession of maidens in bright orange attire, every segment of the event radiated cultural pride. The drumming, rhythmic and resonant, set the pulse of the evening, while elegantly dressed women and exuberant youths added colour and energy to the celebration.

The Eket delegation turned out impressively, with a long list of dignitaries in attendance. Present at the event were the Chairman of Eket LGA, Mkpisong Akaniyene Tommey; Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong; Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey; and the Deputy Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Member representing Eket State Constituency, Dr. Nsidibe Akata.

Also in attendance were the wife of the Paramount Ruler of Eket with his beautiful wife, Obonganwan Mandu Abia; President-General of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, ObongIwaad Captain Willie Mbong; the Founder of Heritage Polytechnic, Dr. Emmanuel Ekott; former commissioners, community leaders, and members of the political class.

Their presence, along with the dynamic cultural procession, affirmed Eket’s reputation as “Idung Mfia Enwe”, a community rich in heritage and communal strength.

For many attendees, the Eket showcase was one of the most colourful and energetic highlights of this year’s Christmas Village festivities, proving once more that when the people of Eket show up, they show up in style.
