Hon. Aniekan Umanah has officially assumed office as the Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, pledging to revolutionize the dissemination of government policies with a strong focus on Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
Addressing staff of the ministry upon his resumption, Umanah expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for the opportunity to serve and charged ministry personnel to be proactive in executing their duties. He commended his predecessor, Comrade Ini Ememobong, for laying a solid foundation and assured that he would build upon the existing structure to enhance efficiency.
Emphasizing teamwork, Umanah encouraged a spirit of camaraderie among staff, stressing that every member of the ministry has a role to play in achieving its mandate. He also announced plans to establish a New Media Directorate to leverage digital technology for improved communication and information management in the state.
The new commissioner, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Maureen Umanah, was warmly received by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Akparawa James Edet, alongside excited staff members.
Welcoming Umanah, the Permanent Secretary described his return to the ministry as a “second missionary journey” and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver, given his previous achievements. Similarly, the Director of Information, Aniekan Ukpong, assured him of the ministry’s support in driving the ARISE Agenda, a five-pillar initiative with 17 focal points aimed at transforming Akwa Ibom State.
The ceremony was marked by songs of praise and prayers for a successful tenure, as Umanah takes on the responsibility of leading the state’s information machinery and ensuring effective communication of government policies to the public.
