The newly appointed Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, has officially assumed office, pledging to drive educational reforms in alignment with Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
Prof. Umoh resumed duty at the Ministry of Education headquarters, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, just a day after his swearing-in. Marking his first day in office, he embarked on a familiarization tour, interacting with staff and assessing the ministry’s operations.
Describing his return as a homecoming, the Commissioner recalled his previous role in the State Scholarship Board and reaffirmed his dedication to quality education, accountability, and improved learning outcomes. He urged ministry staff to uphold excellence, emphasizing that accountability will be a key pillar of his administration.
Demonstrating his hands-on approach, Prof. Umoh paid a surprise visit to Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns, Uyo, where he was warmly received by the Principal, Pastor Ime Ekpo, staff, and students. In an emotional moment, he revealed that he was an alumnus of the school, further reinforcing his commitment to its development.
“As Commissioner and an alumnus, I will be making unscheduled visits to ensure the school remains a model of academic excellence,” he assured, urging teachers and students to intensify their efforts for better performance.
Prof. Umoh was accompanied by the Acting Permanent Secretary and Director of Administration & Supplies, Mrs. Dorathy Isong, along with other Directors and ministry staff.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the education sector in line with the state government’s vision.
