A new pathway to international football stardom is opening for young players in Akwa Ibom State, as FLON Sports Academy has sealed a partnership with Besiktas Football Club of Turkey and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Uyo Chapter, to nurture grassroots talents into global superstars.
The initiative was unveiled on Friday during the September 2025 Congress of SWAN, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, by the program facilitator, Mr. Godwin Akpan, popularly known as For the Love of Nigeria (FLON).
According to Mr. Akpan, the project is set to make its official entry into Akwa Ibom soon, with a mission to provide structured training, mentorship, and international exposure for budding footballers in the state and beyond.
“With the facilities already being put in place, Besiktas Football Club of Turkey is committed to providing specialized sporting clinics to support talent development. A FIFA-standard training pitch is already under construction in Uyo, within a secure and serene environment, to ensure the academy’s smooth takeoff,” he said.
Reacting, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan, Chairman of SWAN, Akwa Ibom State, commended the vision, describing it as a bold step that would not only empower the youths but also put Akwa Ibom on the global football map. He assured that SWAN would fully support the project to guarantee its success.
The partnership signals a major boost for sports development in Akwa Ibom, offering local talents a direct link to European football opportunities through one of Turkey’s most celebrated clubs.
