Akwa United have strengthened their squad with five new signings as they intensify preparations for the second half of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season, determined to maintain their grip on Conference B and secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Promise Keepers ended the first stanza on a strong note and are keen to sustain that momentum when the league resumes.
The new arrivals include forward Dada Oladimeji, midfielders Nsikak Raphael, Kingsley Uduak and Aniebiet Sunday, as well as central defender Melvin Ebitimi. All five players have integrated into the team’s training programme and featured in six mid-season friendly matches, offering early signs of the depth and quality they bring to the squad.
Club Chairman, Elder Joseph Eno, expressed confidence in the technical competence of the recruits and charged them to quickly adapt to the club’s philosophy and ambitions. He reiterated the Akwa Ibom State Government’s commitment to seeing the team return to the NPFL this season and assured the players of sustained welfare support to ensure optimal performance.
Head Coach Paul Offor also voiced optimism, describing the new signings as players with the right mentality and ability to strengthen the promotion campaign. He noted that increased competition for starting places would raise standards within the squad as the decisive phase of the season begins.
The mid-season transfer window, however, also witnessed notable departures. Midfielder Anietie Uko completed a move to Tanzania’s Mbeya Kwanza FC, winger Erikan Francis joined Heartland FC on loan, while Lazarus Ebuka, Itebu James, Joshua Unoro, Babatunde Omosebi, Onhanedo Onyedikachi, Emenike John and Emmanuel Ita returned to their parent clubs.
Attention now shifts to Sunday, February 15, 2026, when Akwa United host neighbours Calabar Rovers in a crucial Matchday 10 derby clash at the Uyo Township Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
With promotion aspirations firmly in sight, the Promise Keepers will be aiming to complete a derby double and consolidate their leadership in Conference B.
