Former Minister and House of Representatives Member, Chief Nduese Essien, has called on the people of Akwa Ibom State and the entire Niger Delta region to rally behind the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) to ensure its success, just like other socio-political groups across the country.
Speaking at a PANDEF meeting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Chief Essien, a founding member of the organization, emphasized the group’s role in advancing the interests of the Niger Delta. The gathering was attended by the immediate past National President, Senator Ibok Essien, and other key stakeholders.

“This group exists to work for and agitate for the interests of the Niger Delta region. Its objectives include promoting and sustaining the social, economic, cultural, developmental, and educational rights of the people. PANDEF also seeks to ensure the safety and security of the region, identify obstacles to its development, and devise strategies to overcome them. Furthermore, it aims to promote good governance, represent the region at local and international forums, and project its cause to national and global communities,” Chief Essien stated.

He reaffirmed PANDEF’s commitment to fostering peace and security in the region while addressing challenges that could threaten its unity. According to him, PANDEF remains a strong voice for the Niger Delta, filling the gap left by previous advocacy groups that failed to secure the region’s rights effectively.

Chief Essien also clarified that PANDEF membership is open to all bona fide sons and daughters of the Niger Delta, requiring an enrollment process and a membership fee, as determined by the organization’s Executive Committee.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of the newly constituted Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee, with Dr. Inyang Abia as Chairman and Engr. Sunday Umoh as Secretary. The new executive is expected to be formally inaugurated by Governor Umo Eno.
