Eket, In a bold step towards improving grassroots infrastructure and promoting hygienic learning environments, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, is set to commission a newly constructed six-room modern toilet facility at Government Primary School, Afaha Uqua Obokidim in Eket Local Government Area.
This latest intervention has been widely applauded by the host community, particularly the people of Afaha Obokidim, who have described the facility as timely and life-enhancing.
The toilet project, initiated under the umbrella of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda, reflects the government’s commitment to promoting child welfare, public health, and environmental sanitation, especially in rural and peri-urban areas.
The new facility responds directly to appeals by the school for improved sanitation infrastructure to combat open defecation and reduce health risks for pupils and staff.
It will be recalled that on February 19, 2024, Hon. Archibong commissioned a mini water project at the same school, complete with a SUMEC Firman SPG 4500 generator and a dedicated generator house — further underlining his consistent focus on improving basic amenities in the education sector.
Community leaders and parents have lauded Hon. Archibong’s unwavering dedication to grassroots development and his efforts to create healthier, more dignified learning environments for children in public schools.
The formal commissioning of the new toilet facility is expected to take place in the coming days.
