The Effanga family of Calabar has announced the passing of Effiong Obo Effanga, affectionately known as Etete, who died peacefully recently and buried today Friday November 14, 2025, He was 60 years old.
Born on March 18, 1965, Etete was the second of four children and the cherished first son of the late Chief Obo Effiom Effanga of the historic Obutong Clan in Calabar Municipality. He was the only child of his mother, Madam Grace Eta Ojong, with whom he shared a special and enduring bond.
Etete’s early years were marked by diligence and curiosity, traits that would later define his personal and professional life. He began his education at Presbyterian Primary School, Big Qua Town, Calabar, before proceeding to the Community Technical College, Ikot Effanga. These formative years laid the groundwork for a life anchored in discipline, learning, and service.
Driven by a passion for education, Etete earned the Teacher’s Certificate from the National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna, and later obtained the National Certificate in Education (NCE), strengthening his commitment to teaching and community development.
Throughout his lifetime, Etete was admired for his gentle spirit, humility, and steadfast loyalty to family and friends. He carried his responsibilities with quiet grace and met challenges with calm determination. His warmth, sound advice, and willingness to help others earned him respect across the community.
His passing leaves a profound void among loved ones, but his legacy endures in the lives he influenced, with kindness, sincerity, and unwavering devotion. Family members, friends, and the wider community continue to celebrate his memory and the goodness he shared throughout his life.
Etete is survived by his family, extended relatives, and many friends who will deeply miss him.
