Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, has formally picked his Senate nomination form ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling his intention to seek re-election.
In a strategic move to consolidate support, the lawmaker on Thursday met with Engr. Uwem Okoko, popularly known as Hensek, a prominent political stakeholder and President-General of the Arise with Renewed Hope Initiative, where he presented his nomination form.
Speaking during the meeting, Sampson expressed appreciation for the continued support of Engr. Okoko and other stakeholders in the senatorial district. He emphasized that the 2027 race would focus on consolidation, noting his commitment to working closely with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and constituents to advance the collective interests of the district and the state.
According to the senator, sustained collaboration with key leaders would enhance legislative impact and attract greater federal presence to Akwa Ibom South.
In his response, Engr. Okoko pledged full support for Sampson’s re-election bid, commending the senator’s performance and describing him as a strong and effective voice for the people of Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly.
Sampson, a seasoned politician and scholar, currently chairs the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals. Political observers note that his status as a ranking senator positions him to attract increased opportunities, influence, and developmental benefits to the district.
Meanwhile, a growing number of constituents have continued to rally behind his candidacy, expressing confidence that his return to the Senate would further strengthen representation and accelerate development across Akwa Ibom South.
