The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Udu Moses Ogechi, PhD, as the new officer in charge of the Zonal Criminal Intelligence Department (ZCID), Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar.
DCP Ogechi formally assumed duty on Tuesday, January 7, 2026, marking a strategic reinforcement of the zone’s criminal intelligence and investigative capacity. His appointment comes at a time when intelligence-driven policing remains critical to combating emerging security threats across the South-South and adjoining regions.
A native of Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, DCP Ogechi is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force on August 15, 2002, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was commissioned on February 21, 2004.
Widely regarded as a seasoned and versatile officer, DCP Ogechi brings to Zone 6 an extensive professional background spanning investigations, operations, administration, training, and international peace support duties.
His previous postings include Officer in Charge of General Investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Alagbon; Commander of the Federal Task Force on Narcotic and Counterfeit Drugs under NAFDAC; and several command roles within the Police Mobile Force, including Commander of MOPOL 43 in Lagos and Commanding Officer of MOPOL 59 in Gombe.
He has also served in high-risk operational theatres as Unit Commander with the Joint Task Force in Potiskum, Yobe State, and as Component Commander, Sector 2 of the Special Task Force in Jos. Internationally, DCP Ogechi served with the United Nations in Liberia, where he was responsible for recruitment and training.
Other notable positions held by the senior officer include Area Commander, Agbor in Delta State; Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), Zone 8, Lokoja; ACP (Administration), Police Air Wing, Lagos; ACP (Department of Operations), Rivers State Police Command; Commandant, Police Training School, Ikeja; and Deputy Commissioner, General Investigation, FCID Annex, Gombe State. He also commanded the Niger–Benin Enhanced Joint Border Patrol at Seme, Lagos.
In the area of professional development, DCP Ogechi has attended numerous local and international courses, earning over 25 certificates under United Nations programmes. He is an alumnus of the Turkish International Academy against Drugs and Organized Crime (TADOC), Ankara. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Red Cross.
Beyond policing, DCP Ogechi is an accomplished author, with several published works to his credit, including The Gun Must Not Fire, Blame the Victim, and The Lost Dignity of Man. His hobbies include biking, shooting, and writing.
DCP Udu Moses Ogechi is married with children.
