Apostle Ime George Ikpe, the Uyo Field Superintendent of The Apostolic Church, has called on journalists to uphold professional ethics and contribute positively to societal growth through their work.
Speaking during the 2025 NUJ Thanksgiving Service held at Ikot Ekpene Udo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Apostle Ikpe highlighted the crucial role of the media in democratic governance. He urged journalists to focus on promoting values that foster development while downplaying issues that impede societal progress.
The cleric also emphasized the need for the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) to sanitize the industry and address the menace of quackery. He encouraged professional journalists to operate within the ethical boundaries of their profession and seek divine guidance in their endeavors.
Quoting Matthew 7:7, Apostle Ikpe reminded journalists to ask, seek, and knock for divine grace and favor, underscoring the importance of spirituality in their professional journey.
Themed “Grace upon Grace,” the event attracted dignitaries including Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, journalists, media executives, and other stakeholders in the industry.
The annual thanksgiving service provided a platform for reflection and prayer for the media industry, as well as a reaffirmation of the commitment of journalists to their ethical responsibilities.
