Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, has announced a ₦100 million Endowment Fund for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the district, reinforcing his political strength and consolidating wide stakeholder support ahead of future electoral contests.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, during a gathering of party leaders and stakeholders, where the Senator also presented a brand-new vehicle to the APC Chapter Chairman in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and donated ₦5 million to the chapter for the rental of a befitting party office.
The gestures sparked excitement among party members and triggered an immediate wave of endorsements from across the senatorial district. Stakeholders unanimously commended Senator Sampson for what they described as effective, inclusive and impactful representation, endorsing him for a second term in the Senate.
Reacting to the development, political commentator and party stakeholder, Iboro Imose, declared that any “replacement option” for the Akwa Ibom South Senate seat was “dead and buried,” citing overwhelming support for competence and continuity. He noted that prominent political figures, including Rt. Hon. (Chief) Nduese Essien, Ekuwem; Rt. Hon. Otu Ita Toyo; Ekpoattai, and other influential leaders, had thrown their weight behind Senator Sampson.
Beyond party support, the Senator’s legislative and constituency records were highlighted as the basis for the growing confidence in his leadership. As a strong advocate of sustainable human capital development, Senator Sampson has facilitated employment opportunities for numerous constituents in key federal parastatals and the private sector. He has also donated vehicles to constituents, many of which were done quietly without public fanfare.
Through the 2024 Appropriation Act, the Senator attracted and facilitated several critical infrastructure projects to Akwa Ibom South, with an emphasis on equitable distribution across the culturally diverse senatorial district. Observers note that his bridge-building disposition has fostered harmony among the district’s varied ethnic groups, creating an enabling environment for growth and development.
Within the National Assembly, Senator Sampson has carved a reputation as a respected and influential voice. His contributions on the floor of the Senate and during committee engagements have consistently drawn bipartisan consensus, underlining his depth, clarity and legislative competence. This standing has positioned him among the most intellectually formidable members of the 10th Senate.
In recognition of these qualities, Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, appointed Senator Sampson as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development, one of the most strategic committees of the Red Chamber. Since assuming office, the Senator has injected renewed energy into the sector, drawing increased attention to its vast economic potential. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary) and is a member of several other key committees.
The stature of the Solid Minerals Committee, which includes former governors and seasoned legislators, further underscores the confidence reposed in Senator Sampson by Senate leadership and his peers.
Among the tangible projects credited to his representation are state-of-the-art JAMB/CBT centres at St. Vincent Oti-Oro, St. Francis Ikot Ataku in Eket, and Excellence College, Ikot Unya; extensive rehabilitation of electricity infrastructure in parts of Eket Local Government Area; new power projects in Urue Offong/Oruko; a modern hall at the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi; solar-powered water schemes; solar street lighting; farm road construction; and multiple skills acquisition and training programmes.
With party structures strengthened, stakeholders aligned, and development footprints visible across the district, Senator Ekong Sampson’s political standing in Akwa Ibom South appears firmly consolidated.
