Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has officially suspended the enforcement of laws related to the use of tinted vehicle glass, following a legal challenge questioning the legitimacy of the current enforcement regime.
According to a public notification, the Police have been formally served with court processes challenging the legality of tinted glass enforcement across the country. In response, the Force has acknowledged receipt of the court documents and announced an immediate suspension of enforcement actions pending the outcome of the judicial proceedings.
“The public is hereby notified that the Nigeria Police has been served with the court processes, challenging the legality of the tinted glass enforcement,” the statement reads. “Accordingly, enforcement is by law and procedure, suspended until the court decides one way or the other.”
Citizens have been advised to be aware of this development and are encouraged to print and carry a copy of the notification to present to any law enforcement officers who may attempt to enforce the now-suspended policy.
Any police officer who continues to stop or harass motorists over tinted glass issues will be acting outside the bounds of the law, the notice emphasized.
This development comes amid growing public concern over alleged harassment by some officers under the guise of enforcing tinted glass regulations.
The matter now rests with the courts, and the public awaits a final ruling on the legality of the enforcement framework.
