The Media Adviser to the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has explained that his principal changed his name from Sulaimon Ogunleye to Solomon Adeola after converting from Islam to Christianity.
The aide, Kayode Odunaro, made the clarification while responding to questions surrounding Adeola’s identity and name ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. He said the name change occurred years before Adeola ventured into politics and should not be interpreted as evidence of wrongdoing.
According to Odunaro, Adeola was born into a Muslim family and later adopted the name Solomon after becoming a Christian. He explained that Solomon is the biblical equivalent of Sulaimon, while Adeola was chosen as the surname from his family names.
The clarification followed recent allegations by former Ijebu East Local Government Chairman, Wale Adedayo, who claimed that Adeola was originally known as Sulaimon Ogunleye and was from Ekiti State. Adeola subsequently challenged those making the claims to provide evidence or face legal action.
Odunaro maintained that changing one’s name for religious, personal or other reasons was not unusual, stressing that Adeola had already changed his name during his years at The Guardian, long before becoming a prominent political figure.
