The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, received retired police officers in the state under the aegis of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON) during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Uyo.
Led by their State Chairperson, ASP (Rtd) Chief Anselem Eyo, the delegation expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the warm reception and reaffirmed their readiness to support the Command’s security efforts in the state.
Chief Eyo appealed to the Police Command for closer collaboration in addressing the welfare concerns of retired officers and enhancing their recognition in state policing matters.
In his remarks, CP Azare lauded the retirees for their service to the nation and urged them to remain law-abiding, peaceful, and exemplary figures in their communities. He emphasized that as former officers, they still bear the moral and ethical responsibility to uphold the law and act as bridge-builders in society.
Addressing concerns raised about the contributory pension scheme, CP Azare assured the visiting retirees that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, is actively working towards meaningful reforms and improvements to the system.
He encouraged the retired officers to engage constructively with relevant authorities and community stakeholders in order to help curb criminal activities and maintain public safety.
CP Azare further pledged the Command’s support for NARPON and promised to ensure the Association receives increased visibility and publicity in its engagements and initiatives.
The meeting marked a reaffirmation of collaboration between serving and retired police officers in the collective effort to promote peace and security across Akwa Ibom State.
