The Nigerian Army has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his unwavering support for the military and other security agencies in the state.
The newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Major General Eric Emekah, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Uyo. The visit was part of his familiarization tour of military detachments under his command in the state.
General Emekah, who recently assumed office, acknowledged the governor’s contributions to the army, particularly the 2 Brigade, which he described as a primary beneficiary of the state government’s hospitality.
“I have visited Akwa Ibom several times on oversight duties in my previous role as Deputy Chief of Operations, so I can confidently say that we are aware of your contributions to the Army. On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and the officers and men of the 6 Division, I say thank you,” he stated.
In response, Governor Eno congratulated General Emekah on his new assignment and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening security collaborations. He lauded the military and other security agencies for their role in maintaining peace and protecting lives, both on land and along the waterways.
The governor also reiterated his call for the establishment of an army base in Oron to bolster maritime security along the coastal areas of the state.
“For us as a state, we will continue to support the Nigerian Army and security agencies because they are protecting our people. We had previously requested the establishment of a battalion along the Oron-Urueffong Oruko axis to help curb criminal activities along the waterways. I believe you can help us achieve that,” Governor Eno stated.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and members of the newly constituted State Executive Council.
