The Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA) has applauded Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, for his exemplary dedication to grassroots sports development through the successful organization of the maiden William Troost-Ekong U-15 Boys Football Tournament.

Chairman of the State FA, Mr. Samuel Umoh, who graced the grand finale alongside members of the association’s board at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, Ikot Ada Idem, described Troost-Ekong’s initiative as a profound gesture of patriotism and a strategic investment in the future of Nigerian football.

“On behalf of the entire Akwa Ibom State Football Association, I sincerely commend William Troost-Ekong for this laudable initiative. It takes a man of vision and humility to return home and contribute meaningfully to the development of young talents,” Umoh remarked during the medal presentation. “This tournament is not just about football, it is about hope, opportunity, and the future of our youth.

The week-long competition, which culminated in a thrilling final, saw Blessed Stars Football Academy clinch the title after defeating Artisan FC 1-0. Troost-Ekong, accompanied by his brother and close friends, was present to witness the climax of what has been hailed as a model for youth sports engagement.

Beyond the goals and trophies, the tournament created a credible platform for talent discovery and community cohesion, as players received cash rewards and individual honours in recognition of their performances.

Mr. Umoh concluded by reaffirming AKSFA’s commitment to future collaboration with the Troost-Ekong Foundation, noting that plans are already underway for the next edition scheduled for January 2026.
