Akwa United FC have secured a spot in the final of the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Federation Cup following a tense 1-0 victory over Godswill Akpabio United FC in the semi-final clash at Uyo Township Stadium on Friday, February 21.
A second-half strike from forward Ogunleye Olayemi sealed the win for the Promise Keepers, who will now face Eagle Eye Football Academy in Sunday’s highly anticipated final. Eagle Eye Academy earned their place in the final after overcoming Heavens Race Academy in Thursday’s semi-final encounter.
Akwa United, the most decorated team in the tournament’s history, will be eyeing their 15th title in 16 years, reaffirming their dominance in Akwa Ibom football. In contrast, Eagle Eye Academy will be playing in their first-ever state final, aiming to pull off a historic upset.
Beyond state glory, both teams have also booked their tickets for the 2025 President Federation Cup, where they will represent Akwa Ibom at the national level. Akwa United, who won the national title in 2015 and 2017, will be seeking to add another trophy to their cabinet.
Sunday’s final promises to be an exciting showdown at the Uyo Township Stadium, with kickoff set for 4 PM. Preceding the men’s final, the Women’s Federation Cup final will take center stage at 2 PM, featuring a thrilling contest between Ibom Angels FC and Jacklyn Angels FC.
