Akwa Ibom State contingents are set to depart for Abeokuta, Ogun State, to participate in the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games – Ogun 2024.
The contingent comprises 258 athletes and 101 officials, reflecting the state’s strong commitment to sporting excellence and youth development.
The multi-sport event, Nigeria’s biggest sports fiesta, will be officially hosted by the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. It is scheduled to begin on March 16, 2025, with the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta and other designated venues serving as sporting centres.
Akwa Ibom’s participation underscores the state’s readiness to compete at the highest level and foster national unity through sports. The Gateway Games promise to be a showcase of talent, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Nigerian youth.
Speaking with the commissioner of sports, elder ‘Spots’ Bassey assured that Àkwa Ibom continents will do well.
