In a deeply moving act of love and sacrifice, a grandmother in Homa Bay County, Kenya, left many speechless when she turned up at Adiedo Mixed Secondary School with six live chickens as payment for her granddaughter’s school fees.
The elderly woman arrived at the school in the company of her granddaughter, who had earlier been sent home due to unpaid fees. With no money to offer, she presented the chickens—one of which dramatically laid an egg on the spot—as her only means to ensure the child’s education continued.
The gesture, while unusual, spoke volumes about the woman’s determination and the lengths to which she was willing to go to secure her granddaughter’s future. It also cast a spotlight on the painful sacrifices many families in rural communities make for education.
Witnesses at the scene were reportedly moved by the act, with teachers acknowledging the depth of commitment shown by the grandmother.
