The 7th of March, 2025, will remain a remarkable day in the cultural and historical evolution of Ibibio Land as Captain Mczekie Willies mmi, Amb P. THE SOUTH-SOUTH PRINCE OF RECONCILIATION was inducted into the prestigious Akwa Esop Imaisoŋ Ibibio as Ukai Ikpaisong Ibibio. The grand occasion also marked the installation of Obong Pius James Okon as Ntisong IV and the send-forth ceremony of Obong (Engr.) Essien U. Ekidem, the Ntisong III, coinciding with the 44th-anniversary celebration of the revered socio-cultural group.
The event, held at Asan Ibibio, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, was a colorful display of tradition and cultural heritage. The rich Ibibio customs were showcased through thrilling performances by traditional masquerades, Ekpo, Akatta, Ekpe, and Ekoong, each symbolizing the deep-rooted legacy of the Ibibio people.
Dignitaries from various walks of life graced the historic occasion, including traditional rulers, political leaders, youth and women groups, representatives of non-indigenous communities in Akwa Ibom, religious leaders, and government officials. The presence of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, further underscored the significance of the event.
Beyond the cultural spectacle, the gathering echoed a deeper message, the urgent need for reconciliation, unity, and development among the people of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large. The call to revive the Spirit of the Ibibio Union is gaining momentum, with plans underway for a second tour across all ethnic groups in the state, the Ibibio, Annang, Oro, and Obolo, to engage in dialogue, resolve lingering concerns, and build bridges where necessary.
This initiative aligns with a broader vision, the National Reconciliation, Peace, and Economic Recovery Summit in Nigeria, championed by COWENDS Peace Initiatives, Commonwealth of Niger Delta States. The summit aims to foster national cohesion, economic prosperity, and lasting peace in Nigeria.
As the movement for unity gains traction, every well-meaning citizen is invited to support this noble cause because Nigeria is our collective heritage.

Let us build a stronger Ibibio, a stronger Akwa Ibom, and a greater Nigeria.
