In a significant boost to Akwa Ibom State’s tourism sector, construction has officially resumed at the iconic 14-storey Ibom Tropicana Hotel complex, a multi-billion naira project that had been abandoned for over ten years.
Once described as a potential game-changer in the state’s hospitality industry, the hotel is now seeing renewed activity under the administration of Governor Umo Eno. The move is already reinforcing his reputation as a transformative leader in the tourism sector.
A visit to the site revealed a flurry of activity, with contractors and their workers fully mobilized and engaged in efforts to bring the long-stalled masterpiece to completion.
In addition to the hotel, work has also recommenced on other components of the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment and Business Complex, notably the Conference Centre. The sprawling facility—which already features a Cineplex and Shopping Mall—has long served as a major attraction in Uyo, the state capital.
With this revival effort, the Umo Eno-led administration is not only breathing new life into a landmark project but also reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development and economic diversification through tourism.
