The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Sports has received the official report of the Fact-Finding Committee set up to assess the performance of the state’s athletes at the recent Niger Delta Sports Festival hosted in Uyo.
At a brief ceremony held in the conference room of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, commended the committee for its timely delivery and thorough job.
“I want to thank you immensely, gentlemen, for a job well done,” Bassey said. “There were issues at the festival that shouldn’t have arisen, and your report will help us correct those. We will restrategize, go back to the grassroots, and focus on talent development to reposition sports in the state.”
The 49-page report was formally presented by the Committee Chairman, Barr. Ime Akpan, who expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunity to serve. He assured that the document captures critical concerns and recommendations to drive reform and progress.
Other members of the committee included Comrade Amos Etuk, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state; Dr. Promise Etim; Hon. John Ekpenyong; and Mr. James James, Assistant Director in the Ministry of Sports, who served as secretary.
The recommendations from the report are expected to influence grassroots sports development and foster greater competitiveness among athletes representing the state.
