Akwa Ibom Gears Up for Niger Delta Games as Organizers Applaud Sports Facilities

With less than three weeks to the much-anticipated maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival, the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) has expressed strong confidence in Akwa Ibom State’s ability to host the event, citing the quality of sports infrastructure available.

Co-chairman of the committee and festival consultant, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, made this known after inspecting key sporting facilities and hostel accommodations across the state. The inspection, led by Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, covered the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in Ikot Ada Idem, Ibiono Ibom; West Itam Sports Centre, Itu; Cornelia Cornelly College, Afaha Oku; Ultrafit Recreational Centre, Ewet Housing; Uyo Township Stadium; and the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Speaking to journalists, Ikpokpo lauded the Akwa Ibom State government for its commitment to sports infrastructure, particularly highlighting the impressive state of facilities at DASAC. He reaffirmed that Akwa Ibom was unanimously selected to host the festival due to its heavy investment in sports development.

“Akwa Ibom is a beautiful place, and the facilities we have inspected are in excellent condition. We are confident they will help deliver a top-tier sports festival. Planning has been ongoing for over a year, and we are now in the execution phase. In the next two weeks, all facilities will be fully ready for the event,” he
