Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), insisting that its officials must resign if the national team fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Oliseh, who was speaking in an interview, stressed that missing out on the tournament would set Nigerian football back significantly.
“Every four years that you don’t qualify for the World Cup, your football goes back eight years. That’s how it works,” he cautioned.
He maintained that retaining the same leadership after a failed campaign would be unacceptable, arguing that accountability must be prioritized.
“If Nigeria doesn’t qualify for the next World Cup (2026), and the people running football in Nigeria are still in their positions, then we don’t even deserve to qualify for the next one,” he declared.
Oliseh further urged that urgent reforms be introduced to salvage the sport, stressing that persistence in wrong strategies would yield no positive results.
“Something drastic must be done,” he warned. “You cannot keep driving the same way towards Badagry and expect to find yourself in Sokoto. It can’t happen; you’re going in the opposite direction.”
The former Nigerian international’s remarks come amid concerns about the Super Eagles’ current form and the mounting pressure on the NFF to ensure qualification for the global football showpiece.
