The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo is once again set to showcase Akwa Ibom State on the global stage as it hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Zimbabwe’s Warriors on March 25.

The Zimbabwean national team arrived in Lagos earlier today and is en route to Uyo, where they will battle the Super Eagles at the prestigious stadium, popularly known as the Nest of Champions. This facility, one of the signature projects of Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio during his tenure as Governor, continues to serve as a major sporting asset, attracting international tournaments and boosting the state’s visibility.

The stadium remains a shining example of Akpabio’s infrastructural legacy, frequently drawing comparisons to projects by his successors. As Akwa Ibom once again takes center stage in international football, the spotlight remains on the Nest of Champions as a symbol of the state’s sports development and global relevance.
