The Akwa Ibom State Government has carried out a major restructuring of the Ministry of Information to enhance service delivery, improve public engagement, and align with modern communication strategies under Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the government explained that the reorganisation aims to boost efficiency in information management, media relations, and public outreach.
Key changes include renaming the Directorate of Information to the Directorate of Information and Public Communications to reflect a broader mandate. The Public Relations Directorate has been expanded to include advertising functions for better visibility of government initiatives.
Additionally, the Directorate of Strategy has been rebranded as the Directorate of New Media and Strategy, with a focus on leveraging digital platforms for real-time communication. The Directorate of Archives is now the Directorate of Documentaries and Archives, taking on the additional responsibility of documenting government projects and policies.
The former Directorate of Technical Services has been upgraded to the Directorate of ICT and Technical Services, ensuring technology-driven solutions for improved service delivery. Other directorates, including Administration and Supplies, Planning, Research, and Statistics, and Finance and Accounts, retain their existing structures.
The state government urged stakeholders and the public to take note of the changes and engage with the appropriate directorates as needed.
Describing the restructuring as a strategic move, the government stated that it would strengthen governance, transparency, and innovation, ensuring that public communication remains effective and aligned with modern trends.
