Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has been inaugurated as the new International Vice-President (Africa) of Ati Annang Foundation, a leading socio-cultural organization of the Annang people.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the foundation’s International Secretariat in Ikot Ekpene, alongside other newly elected executive members. The event also featured the Annual General Meeting and the official presentation of the Harmonized Orthography of the Anaañ Language Curriculum, a milestone in the preservation and promotion of the Annang language.
Leading the foundation’s new executive team is Mr. Aniekpeno Mkpanang, a former secondary school teacher, broadcaster, retired Permanent Secretary, and one-time Director of Protocol to former Governor Godswill Akpabio. Mkpanang now serves as the 6th International President of Ati Annang Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, represented by his Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, underscored the importance of preserving indigenous languages in an era of globalization. He commended Ati Annang’s leadership and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, peace, and cultural heritage in the state.
