The Kingdom of Morocco has emerged as the host of the Africa Clubs Association (ACA) headquarters, following a competitive bidding process involving South Africa, Morocco, and Algeria.
The ACA, a continental body established a year ago, received invitations from Morocco and Algeria to inspect their facilities as part of the bidding process. At the ACA board meeting held on Friday, Morocco was unanimously selected as the preferred host.
Nigeria’s Paul Bassey, Vice President of ACA, confirmed the decision, citing Morocco’s superior infrastructure and its strategic vision for football development over the next fifty years. “After comparing the bids before us, we were unanimous that Morocco will give us a better deal due to quality infrastructure and the projection of football development in the continent in the next fifty years,” he said.
Bassey also highlighted that the ACA will share offices in Rabat, close to the headquarters of CAF and FIFA. He noted that this proximity was a significant advantage, given Morocco’s growing influence in global football development.
Following the decision, the ACA board dispatched a letter to Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Football Federation, congratulating Morocco on securing the bid.
As part of the next steps, ACA board members are scheduled to visit Morocco this weekend to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and finalize the agreement.
The visit coincides with the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 draw, slated for January 27 in Rabat. This provides an opportunity for the ACA executives to engage with FIFA, CAF, and national football association officials on issues related to club football across the continent.
Morocco’s selection as the ACA headquarters marks a significant milestone in the development of African football, further solidifying the nation’s role as a leader in the sport.
