Akwa Ibom State, Governor, Umo Eno has reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing the N80,000 minimum wage for verified public servants, with payments set to begin in January 2025, retroactive to November 2024.
The Governor made this declaration at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) 2025 Thanksgiving Service held at The Apostolic Church, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area. He disclosed that the verification committee’s report, a crucial step in ensuring accurate payments, will be presented to him on Monday, January 20, 2025.
“We remain committed to improving the welfare of public servants in Akwa Ibom State. With the receipt of the verification report, we will take decisive action to ensure the implementation of this policy,” Governor Eno said.
The Governor also highlighted strides made in addressing workers’ entitlements, noting that his administration has paid N47 billion out of the over N95 billion owed in gratuities and other benefits. He reassured workers of his government’s unwavering dedication to their well-being, pledging further support through various initiatives.
This announcement during the NUJ Thanksgiving Service underscores Governor Eno’s focus on prioritizing workers’ welfare and fostering trust in his leadership. Public servants and union leaders have hailed the move as a significant step towards improving livelihoods and boosting morale in the state workforce.
