The Amalgamated Newspaper Publishers of Akwa Ibom State (ANPA) has congratulated Comrade Nsibiet John on his election as the 13th Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council.
In a statement jointly signed by its President General, Pastor OsuiniAbasi Alfred, Secretary, Deacon Ubong Ettetor, and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Elder Ernest Akpan, ANPA described John’s victory as “well-deserved and timely,” citing his proven leadership qualities, professional competence, and commitment to journalistic ethics.
The publishers noted that Comrade John, who previously served as Chairman of the Federated Chapel of the NUJ, Secretary of ANPA’s Board of Trustees, and Publisher of The INK Newspaper, has consistently demonstrated capacity and character in leadership roles.
ANPA recalled that it was the first professional body to openly endorse John ahead of the NUJ election, adding that his emergence reflects the collective confidence of media practitioners in his ability to reposition the Union.
“As one of our own, Comrade John’s emergence is a proud moment for the publishing family in Akwa Ibom. We are confident that his leadership will usher in a new phase of professionalism, unity, and innovation in the NUJ,” the statement read.
The body also congratulated other newly elected NUJ executive members and urged journalists across the state to unite and support the new leadership for the progress of the profession.
Meanwhile, ANPA commended Governor Umo Eno for his media-friendly gestures, particularly the donation of brand-new vehicles to members of the outgone NUJ State Working Committee, including ANPA’s Treasurer, Comrade Quinta Akpan. The publishers also applauded the Governor for appointing Comrade Amos Etuk, immediate past NUJ Chairman and a member of ANPA, as Senior Special Assistant on Local Media.
ANPA pledged its continuous collaboration with the Umo Eno-led administration in promoting press freedom, institutional development, and policies that strengthen the media sector in the state.
