Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (CON), immediate past Senator for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District and former Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream, has thrown his weight behind the Hon. Moses Essien Unity Football Competition.
The endorsement came when members of the Central Planning Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Ita Ukpong, paid him a courtesy visit at his Uyo residence.
Senator Albert, fondly called OBA, expressed delight over the initiative, describing it as a laudable platform to unite the people of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. He commended Hon. Moses Essien, facilitator of the competition, for deploying sports as a rallying point for peace, love, and youth engagement in the area.
“Ours is a society that needs peace and unity at all times, and I urge Hon. Moses Essien to remain focused, result-oriented, and steadfast in his legislative duties while using this competition to foster harmony. He is a symbol of unity and should continue to champion that cause,” Senator Albert stated.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Hon. Bassey Eyibio, Adviser to the tournament, explained that the essence of the Unity Cup was to strengthen peace among youths, elders, and women of Ibiono Ibom, aligning with the spirit of a united Akwa Ibom as championed by Governor Umo Eno.
The visit climaxed with the presentation of the official tournament jersey to Senator Albert, who also signed an autograph in support of the event.
The Hon. Moses Essien Unity Football Competition 2025 is expected to bring together diverse communities across Ibiono Ibom, reinforcing football as a veritable tool for cohesion and development.
