Mauritius, In a major development for Nigerian sports, retired weightlifter Lawrence Iquaibom has been elected as a member of the Technical Committee of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA).
The election took place during the WFA Congress in Mauritius. Iquaibom, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, will also serve as one of the technical officials at the Senior African Weightlifting Championship scheduled to begin tomorrow.
A former Olympian, Iquaibom represented Nigeria at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. Since retiring from active competition, he has built a reputation as a seasoned International Technical Official, contributing his expertise at global events such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and International Weightlifting Championships.
His latest appointment is seen as a boost for Nigeria’s presence in the international weightlifting community.
