The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Umo Eno on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Government House, Uyo, took far-reaching decisions aimed at consolidating the ARISE Agenda and strengthening governance in the state.
In his opening remarks, the Governor urged members of Council to sustain teamwork and commitment in driving the administration’s development blueprint.
The Council ratified the renewal of the maintenance contract for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium with Julius Berger Plc for another one year, effective July 1, 2025.
It also approved additional works at Ewet Luxury Estate, necessitated by revised architectural designs and topographical adjustments. Similarly, the Council gave approval for the construction of 4.541km of internal roads, drains, service ducts, walkways, and manholes at Dakkada Luxury Estate, Uyo.
The Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (2026–2028), presented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, was approved for onward transmission to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
In a bid to enhance transparency and efficiency in revenue management, the Council adopted the Treasury Single Account (TSA) Policy and set September 1, 2025, for the launch of the TSA platform Akwaremit and the land management platform AkwaGIS.
Council also approved the replacement of obsolete sports equipment for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom Sports Festival and directed the creation of a comprehensive Sports Assets Inventory System.
On food security, the commencement of Phase III of the Free Food Distribution Programme across all 31 Local Government Areas was approved, with rollout scheduled for August 20, 2025.
Furthermore, the Council endorsed the public presentation of the ARISE Socio-Economic Impact Framework on August 7, 2025, as a tool to track governance performance and provide credible data on developmental progress.
To advance its Open Defecation Free (ODF) agenda, the Council approved the construction of sanitation and hygiene facilities in public institutions across Obot Akara, Ikono, Esit Eket, and Nsit Ubium LGAs as a pilot scheme.
In addition, the Council received the TETFUND Board, who paid a courtesy visit ahead of project commissioning at the Akwa Ibom State University.
The meeting, which had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Civil Service, Commissioners, Special Advisers, and other top government functionaries, was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
