Nigerian para-badminton star James Akpan continues to cement his place as one of Africa’s finest athletes after securing two gold medals at the ongoing West Africa Para Games. Akpan dominated the Men’s Singles SL4 event before teaming up in the Mixed Doubles SL3–SU5 category to clinch another gold, further extending his impressive medal streak.

Akpan’s latest triumph adds to what has been a remarkable competitive run. Earlier this year, he captured a silver medal at the 2025 Africa Para-badminton Championships, a performance that secured his qualification for the international championship at the All Africa Games. His medal haul also includes multiple podium finishes at the 5th Abia State National Para-badminton Championships, where he reaffirmed his status as one of the sport’s most consistent performers.
With his West Africa Para Games victories, Akpan not only strengthens Nigeria’s standing in para sports but also positions himself as a major contender heading into upcoming international competitions. His outstanding form continues to inspire younger athletes and highlight the growing potential within Nigeria’s para-badminton community.
