The International President General of Ekid People’s Union (EPU), Dr. Samuel Udonsak, has emphasized the significant role diaspora communities play in the socioeconomic advancement of their homeland.
Speaking at the weekend during a £5 million fundraising event for the acquisition of the Eket Community Center in the United Kingdom, held at Hilton London Paddington, Dr. Udonsak highlighted the impact of collective efforts in fostering infrastructure development, education, business investments, and cultural preservation.
He noted that diaspora groups remain deeply connected to their heritage and contribute positively through development initiatives, financial and technical support, and knowledge transfer. According to him, professionals abroad play a key role in healthcare, education, and business development by sharing their expertise.
“I am convinced that this upcoming Community Center would provide the rallying ground to achieve these laudable ideals,” he remarked.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government, Mkpisong Rt. Hon. Akaniyene Tommey, commended the initiative, describing it as a step toward positioning Ekid on the global stage. He called on the diaspora community to invest in their homeland and praised their unity and commitment to the progress of Ekid people.
Mkpisong Tommey further encouraged the Ekid Community Union to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), assuring that efforts are underway to reposition Eket and restore its status as a leading economic hub.
