The Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sunday Festus Akpan, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents since assuming office in October 2024.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA) on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Elder Festus highlighted his administration’s achievements under the FUTURE ASSURED Agenda. The initiative focuses on critical areas such as agriculture, security, sports, unity, and rural development.
Elder Festus revealed that his administration has made significant strides in improving the quality of life for Oruk Anam residents. Among these are the establishment of the ASSURED Model Farm, the provision of clean water to communities like Ikot Obio Aduak, and hosting a football tournament to foster unity among youths.
He emphasized that these projects aim to address immediate needs while laying the foundation for long-term development. In the area of security, his administration launched the Community Safety Partnership Initiative, modeled after the state’s Ibom Community Watch program, to enhance peace and safety across the local government area.
On infrastructure, the Chairman disclosed that 15 roads across the 16 wards in Oruk Anam, neglected for over two decades, have been graded. This effort, he said, is part of his broader vision to improve access and connectivity in the area.
In a move aligned with Governor Umo Eno’s Compassionate Home Initiative, Elder Festus’ administration constructed a two-bedroom apartment for a vulnerable resident, addressing her urgent housing needs. He noted that the gesture underscores his administration’s commitment to social welfare and inclusivity.
“Our FUTURE ASSURED Agenda is not just a roadmap but a tool for fostering development and unity in Oruk Anam. We are laying a foundation for sustainable growth and rekindling hope among our people,” the Chairman said.
Earlier, the Chancellor of COOPA, Mr. Utitofon Morgan, praised Elder Festus for his proactive leadership and commended his efforts in fulfilling his mandate. He stated that the COOPA Citizens’ Tour aims to assess the impact of local government policies across the state.
With these accomplishments, Elder Sunday Festus Akpan continues to exemplify grassroots leadership, delivering on promises and prioritizing the welfare of Oruk Anam citizens.
