A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abasifreke Victor Joseph, from Utu Abak in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is appealing for urgent assistance following her release from kidnappers.
Abasifreke, a 2024 Batch C1 Corps member serving in Kogi State, was abducted on January 9, 2025, along the Enugu-Kogi road while returning to her place of primary assignment after visiting her family in Akwa Ibom. Despite her family paying a substantial ransom to secure her release, she is now critically ill and unable to access proper medical care.
Currently admitted at General Hospital, Ukpom Abak, the victim is battling severe trauma. Her elder brother, Samuel Victor Joseph, recounted the family’s ordeal, revealing they had to sell their only piece of land and take loans to pay the ransom. Now financially drained, they are unable to afford the necessary treatment to help Abasifreke recover fully.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the hospital, Samuel made a heartfelt plea to members of the public for financial and medical support. “We have nothing left. We are begging good-spirited individuals to help us save her life,” he said.
Abasifreke, a graduate of the College of Education, Afaha Nsit, affiliated with the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, remains in critical condition. Support can be provided through the following account details:
