Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursaries to eligible students across the state, in a move aimed at strengthening access to education and easing the financial burden on students and their families.
The approval also includes an upward review of the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary, representing a significant increase in financial assistance for students pursuing higher education.
The development was announced in a news release issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, who described the decision as a major investment in the state’s human capital development agenda.
According to the statement, the Governor’s approval reflects his administration’s commitment to empowering young people through education and creating opportunities for academic success.
It added that the bursary scheme, which will benefit eligible students across Akwa Ibom State, is part of the government’s broader efforts to build a skilled and productive workforce while ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education.
