The quiet community of Ukuo in Eket Local Government Area was enveloped in solemn reflection on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as family members, friends, and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects to late Mrs. Nkoyo Ita John.
The funeral service, conducted by Christian Fellowship Evangelical Nigeria Inc., drew a cross-section of mourners, including top security officials, community leaders, and well-wishers who came to honour the life and legacy of the deceased.
Among those present was the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Muhammad Azare, fsi, who attended in solidarity with the bereaved family, particularly to support his Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon Ita John, who laid her mother to rest.
In a brief but heartfelt tribute, the Police Commissioner emphasized the shared humanity that transcends professional roles, noting that moments of grief remind individuals of the deeper bonds of family and love.
“I stood not just as a Commissioner of Police, but as a fellow human sharing in the pain of loss,” he said. “Beyond uniforms, ranks, and duties, we are all bound by love, family, and the inevitability of goodbye.”
He described his presence at the funeral as a gesture of support and compassion, stressing that in times of sorrow, physical presence often conveys more comfort than words.
Prayers were offered for the repose of the departed soul, with officiating ministers urging the family to find strength in faith despite the irreplaceable loss.
The ceremony was marked by emotional tributes and expressions of solidarity, as mourners reflected on the life of Mrs. Nkoyo Ita John, described by many as a woman whose impact was deeply felt within her family and community.
The Police Commissioner extended condolences on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, assuring the family of continued support during their period of mourning.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the family the strength to bear this loss,” he added.
The burial rites concluded with a renewed call for unity and compassion, as attendees departed with memories of a life celebrated and honoured.
