The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has passed a vote of confidence in Senator Ekong Sampson, citing his legislative performance and sustained engagement with constituents across Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.
The resolution was reached during the Union’s March Congress held at the Patience Umo Eno Auditorium, where members commended the lawmaker for what they described as effective representation in the Senate through impactful motions, bills, and oversight functions.
Senator Sampson, who represents Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was praised for bridging the gap between professionals and grassroots stakeholders, while maintaining a steady focus on capacity building and empowerment initiatives within his constituency.
Congress noted that his interventions have positively influenced livelihoods across the district’s three federal constituencies, reinforcing his reputation as a responsive and people-oriented legislator.
The motion for the vote of confidence, moved by Comrade Ebong Umoafia and seconded by Comrade Effanga Usen, received unanimous approval, with no dissenting voice. Members also acknowledged the Senator’s accessibility and continued support for media practitioners in the state.
In a related development, the Union expressed appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for appointing Senator Sampson as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, describing the move as both strategic and well-deserved.
Responding, Senator Sampson thanked the NUJ leadership and members for the endorsement, which he described as a validation of his commitment to service. He commended the Union for upholding professionalism and fostering unity within the journalism community.
Highlighting his background in journalism, Sampson assured practitioners of his continued support, particularly in advancing policies that would strengthen the profession and improve welfare. He also encouraged journalists to take a more active role in politics.
The Senator further demonstrated his support for the Union by contributing to the furnishing of the Patience Umo Eno Auditorium.
He used the occasion to call for continued backing for Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Akpabio, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing the need for collective effort in driving development at both state and national levels.
Reaffirming his commitment to effective representation,
Sampson pledged sustained collaboration with the media in promoting good governance and the overall development of Akwa Ibom State.
