Fresh momentum has gathered behind the re-election bid of Ekong Sampson as prominent stakeholders across Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District intensify calls for his return to the National Assembly, citing his legislative experience and performance.
The latest endorsement came from former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Bassey Dan Abia, who declared unequivocal support for the lawmaker during an interaction at his residence in Uyo.
Abia stressed that the district stands to benefit significantly from retaining a ranking senator, noting that Sampson’s experience in the Red Chamber positions him to attract greater opportunities and influence for the region. He maintained that the senator has earned another term based on his legislative track record and declared himself “100 per cent” committed to the re-election effort.
The former NDDC boss joins a growing list of influential figures who have publicly backed Sampson, including Nduese Essien, Ben Udobia and Emmanuel Ekuwem, among others.
In a similar vein, former lawmaker Otobong Ndem underscored the need for experience in national legislation, warning against what he described as “trial and error” representation in the Senate.
Speaking with reporters in Uyo, Ndem argued that the current economic realities and the complexities of lawmaking demand a seasoned legislator with intellectual depth and proven competence. He described Sampson as a “brilliant scholar and effective representative” who has delivered development projects, empowered youths, and safeguarded the interests of the senatorial district.
Ndem also commended the Mkpat Enin Elders and Stakeholders Forum as well as the Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum for aligning behind Sampson’s candidacy, pledging sustained efforts to ensure his return to the Senate.
He urged constituents to unite in support of the lawmaker, insisting that continuity in representation would better serve the district’s long-term development goals.
Sampson, who holds the traditional title of Onomkpoinam of Mkpat Enin, has continued to receive endorsements from a broad coalition of political leaders, socio-cultural organisations, youth groups and professional bodies across the district, reinforcing his position as a leading contender ahead of the next electoral cycle.
