Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, and his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, joined family members, government officials and sympathisers in paying their last respects to the late Mrs. Rosemary Chris Udofia.
Mrs. Udofia, wife of former Uyo Local Government Council Chairman, Dr. Chris Udofia, and mother-in-law to the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Linus Nkan, was honoured at a solemn requiem Mass held at St. Peter’s Church, University of Uyo.
Governor Eno, in a condolence message delivered by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, extolled the late matriarch’s life of service, compassion and excellence.
He noted her enduring contributions to humanity, particularly in nurturing and saving lives, adding that her legacy would remain indelible.
The Governor also extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, especially Dr. Chris Udofia, describing the loss as profound.
In his remarks, Emmanuel reflected on the pivotal role of women in the family and society, emphasizing the irreplaceable position of mothers. Drawing analogies from nature and culture, he described the mother as the emotional and moral anchor of the home, noting that her absence creates a deep vacuum regardless of age.
He offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and urged the family to uphold her values, while also calling on faith-based organisations to continue supporting societal development through prayers and collaboration with leadership.
Delivering the homily, Very Rev. Dr. Donatus Udoette admonished the congregation to live righteously and remain spiritually prepared, referencing the Gospel of John 14:1–6 on faith and eternal life.
Also speaking, the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Dr. Dominic Udosen, praised the late Mrs. Udofia for her dedication as a nurse and her service to humanity. He appreciated the turnout of mourners and encouraged continued prayers for the repose of her soul.
The Bishop of Uyo, John Ebebe Ayah, was represented at the service by the Diocesan Chancellor.
The well-attended ceremony drew a large gathering of political figures, clergy, family members and friends, all united in celebrating the life and legacy of a woman widely regarded as a pillar of strength and compassion.
