Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has formally endorsed Senator Ekong Sampson for a second term in the National Assembly, in a move that underscores growing political consolidation ahead of future electoral contests.
The endorsement, delivered at a well-attended stakeholders’ gathering, drew the backing of prominent political figures, including Elder Ben Udobia and political leader Bassey Dan Abia Jnr who both emphasized the need for continuity and experienced representation at the federal level.
Presiding over the session, Bassey Dan Abia Jnr., popularly known as BADAN highlighted the strategic advantage of retaining a ranking senator in the National Assembly. He noted that legislative seniority translates into stronger influence, better committee placements, and increased access to federal resources for constituency development.
According to him, Senator Sampson’s rising profile in the 10th National Assembly places the constituency in a more advantageous position to attract federal attention and projects.
Speaking during what he described as a “thank-you visit” rather than a political consultation, Senator Sampson expressed appreciation to the people of Esit Eket for their continued support. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy, pointing to ongoing and proposed interventions in the area.
The senator specifically referenced efforts to address the long-standing Ikpa erosion challenge and the construction of school blocks in Uquo as part of his development agenda.
“I came to say thank you and to reassure you that more is on the way. We will not relent in pursuing projects that directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.
The endorsement further received the nod of Barrister Dan Abia, Deputy Political Leader of the area, who reiterated that Sampson’s performance and accessibility justified the overwhelming support.
Observers say the unified stance of Esit Eket’s political leadership signals a strong base for Senator Sampson as conversations around future elections begin to gather momentum across Akwa Ibom State.
