Power Shift in APC: Ganduje’s Portrait Removed as Dalori Assumes Role of Acting National Chairman

A symbolic transition unfolded at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday as the portrait of former National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was taken down shortly after Ali Bukar Dalori officially assumed office as Acting National Chairman.
The quiet yet telling moment occurred when aides of the new party helmsman removed Ganduje’s image from the wall — a traditional indicator of leadership change within Nigeria’s political establishment.
Dalori’s arrival at the Secretariat marked his first official day in office since the announcement of Ganduje’s resignation last Friday, June 27. The former Kano State Governor stepped down from the position to focus on personal and health matters, according to a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
Morka confirmed that Ganduje’s resignation took immediate effect and that Dalori, who was the Deputy National Chairman (North), would steer the party in an acting capacity pending the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for December 2025.
The APC leadership praised Ganduje for his short but impactful stint, crediting him with stabilising the party and fostering internal cohesion.
“Throughout his tenure, he dedicated himself to strengthening the party’s unity and cohesion, expounding its democratic ideals, and enhancing the party’s electoral competitiveness,” Morka stated.
Dalori now steps into the role at a crucial time, as the APC braces for its December convention, expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of future electoral contests.
The leadership transition, though procedural, carries significant weight as it signals potential shifts in the internal dynamics and strategic posture of Nigeria’s ruling party.
