Unwana Abasi Schools, in partnership with its Alumni Forum, has announced that its 2025 42nd Anniversary/ Founder’s Day celebration and fundraising event for school development will take place on 12 December 2025 at the school sports ground. According to the management, this year’s celebration has been designed as an elaborate homecoming aimed at showcasing the institution’s renewed commitment to educational excellence and its revival after a period of unexpected closure.
Founded in 1983 by the late Elder Godwin Nyong Udo, a former principal and dedicated educationist, Unwana Abasi Schools, comprising nursery, primary and secondary sections, was the first of its kind in Osuk Ediene, Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Over the decades, the school has earned recognition at state and national levels, including the prestigious 1993 Mariam Babangida First Lady Award and several other honours within Akwa Ibom State.
Organizers say the 2025 edition will serve as a milestone event, fostering unity among stakeholders while setting a new benchmark for subsequent celebrations. The program lineup includes educational sessions, musical performances, conferment of honorary awards, and the official launching of new developmental projects by the alumni.

Speaking ahead of the event, the school’s Director, Pst. (Hon.) Idongesit Nyong, called on the public, alumni, parents, and community leaders to participate fully in what he described as the “rebirth” of the institution. He emphasized the school’s historic role as one of the pioneer nursery schools in Ikono LGA and former Cross River State, noting that restoring its legacy of academic excellence remains a key priority.
“Unwana Abasi School was one of the pioneer institutions in our community,” he said. “We must retain the memory of the success and breakthroughs recorded in the days of our fathers. Education is a way of life, and we cannot run from it. This is why everyone is invited to join us in rebuilding and projecting this great institution.”
The management urges the general public to attend the 42nd Anniversary/Founder’s Day celebration and support the fundraising drive aimed at revitalizing the school’s facilities and programs.
