The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Comrade Ini Ememobong as its new National Publicity Secretary, a development that has drawn widespread commendation within and beyond the party. His emergence is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening the PDP’s communication machinery and redefining its public engagement.
Ememobong, a seasoned public administrator and respected communication expert, previously served Akwa Ibom State as Commissioner for Information and Strategy. In that role, he earned acclaim for clear and professional information management across two administrations. He later served as Commissioner for Special Duties, where he oversaw the Ibom Deep Seaport project, further solidifying his reputation for administrative competence and strategic thinking. Earlier, he had distinguished himself as the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Akwa Ibom State, where his messaging and grassroots engagement elevated the party’s public profile.
His election comes at a critical juncture for the PDP as it works to reshape public perception and reaffirm its role as a credible opposition. Party stakeholders describe Ememobong as uniquely equipped for the task, citing his background as a public relations professional, trained lawyer, chartered conciliator, and linguist—skills they say will help refine the party’s national messaging.
Beyond his professional credentials, Ememobong’s political journey has been marked by loyalty and principled conduct. His decision to resign from Governor Umo Eno’s administration following the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) drew significant attention. He declined to join the defection, stating that his political values “do not match with APC,” a move party members interpret as a reaffirmation of his commitment to PDP ideals.
This act of principle, analysts say, strengthens his legitimacy in his new national role and reinforces the PDP’s message of valuing integrity and consistency in leadership.
Party leaders believe Ememobong’s election signals a renewed emphasis on competence and credibility. They expect him to help reposition the PDP as a forward-looking, values-driven institution capable of articulating a clear and compelling vision for Nigeria.
